The Czech Republic feels like it was crafted for wanderers—cobblestone paths, fairy-tale rooftops, and a rhythm that flows as easily as its famous beer. In just two days, you too can experience the charms of Prague and the timeless beauty of Český Krumlov before continuing on to Germany or Austria. Here’s how my trip unfolded like a dream.
Day 1: Prague – A City That Captures the Heart
Morning: Old Town Magic
Start your day in Prague’s Old Town, a place that doesn’t demand an itinerary—just your feet, your curiosity, and a little time. The city takes care of the rest, unfolding around you like a fairytale. Follow the winding lanes toward the Astronomical Clock, still performing its magical hourly show after centuries. Then wander deeper into the maze of hidden courtyards, charming boutiques, and inviting cafés and bars.
Across the Charles Bridge
Follow the flow of people and music toward the river until the city opens onto the Charles Bridge, Prague’s most iconic walkway. Street musicians play everything from jazz to classical guitar; portrait artists sketch couples and families; swans glide beneath the arches.
Pause midway to take in the views: Old Town on one side, the castle perched high on the other.
Up to the Castle District
Cross the bridge into Malá Strana and begin the ascent toward Prague Castle. Yes, it’s a climb—but this is where the magic happens. The views expand with each step, revealing terracotta rooftops, winding lanes, and church domes scattered across the skyline.
At the top, explore the castle courtyards and marvel at St. Vitus Cathedral.
Lunch With a View: Strahov Monastery Brewery
A short walk farther brings you to Strahov Monastery, home to a historic library and the beloved monastery brewery. Here, the city stretches below like a painting. Enjoy a glass of St. Norbert beer and a hearty Czech lunch—goulash, roast pork, dumplings—and soak in the feeling of sitting at the top of Prague.
Afternoon: Retail Therapy Down the Hill
On your way back toward Malá Strana, wander into boutique shops offering Czech designs, handcrafted jewellery, crystal, books, and art. It’s the perfect mix of charm and craftsmanship—and a great chance to bring home something special.
Day 2: Český Krumlov & Onward to Germany
The Fairytale of Český Krumlov
The next morning, a private transfer took me south through rolling countryside — peaceful, scenic and the perfect way to ease into the day.
Lunch at Papá’s Living Restaurant
Arriving in Český Krumlov, I stopped at Papá’s Living Restaurant, sitting right on the river with postcard-perfect castle views. Warm service and comforting dishes made for such a lovely, cosy lunch.
Christmas Markets Begin
Because I arrived in late November, I wandered into the Old Town just as the Christmas markets were opening for the season. Gentle lights flickering on, mulled wine simmering, handmade crafts appearing — it felt like stepping into a fairytale. Magical and intimate.
